Rocky Mountain Regional Letter (2008)

Dear Rocky Mountain Region Psi Chi members,

It is another exciting year in the Rocky Mountain west! I hope that many of you are planning to attend RMPA, April 10-12, 2008 in Boise, Idaho. Please find the schedule of events in the convention section at www.psichi.org/conventions/article_1110.asp. Here are some highlights:
  • Speakers: We have wonderful speakers on cultural diversity (Dr. Bernal), teaching (Dr. Daniel), and the future of psychology (Dr. Davis).
  • Sessions: We also have terrific sessions ranging from support for our members (e.g., getting into graduate school) to substantive areas of interest to our members at all professional stages (e.g., adolescent romantic relationships).
  • Awards Ceremony & Reception: We will have the opportunity to listen to our award-winning presenters and then recognize them in our annual Awards Ceremony & Reception. Please join us! In addition to supporting our winners, you will be able to network with other Psi Chi members in the region and have the opportunity to win one of many Psi Chi items that will be raffled during the reception.
  • Recognition of Faculty Advisors: During RMPA, we will recognize our faculty advisors for their dedication to Psi Chi during a faculty luncheon. Seating is limited, so please email me (melanie.domenech@usu.edu) by April 4 to reserve your place!
  • Food!: Finally, this year—rather than host a hospitality suite—we have opted to have the Psi Chi presentation room catered for the optimal comfort of those attending the sessions.
The success of RMPA, and all regional activities, is possible with the support of active student and faculty members. I would like to thank those that serve on our regional steering committee—Drs. Pamela Ansburg and Mark Basham, and our student member Kristina McDougal—as well as those who generously give of their time to the national organization by agreeing to review proposals for RMPA, review grants and/or awards for the national office, and support students or chapters in seeking grants and awards.

Special recognition goes to two of our undergraduate students in the region, Adam Kynaston and Bailey Bell, both of whom secured Undergraduate Research Grants! Please remember that we have many research grants and awards as well as chapter and advisor awards. Please visit www.psichi.org/awards for more information. And please check with me if you have questions about any Psi Chi awards and grants.

Please be sure to let me know of your ideas for a healthier region, for national programs, and for next year’s RMPA! And also let me know how I can be of service and support to you and your local chapter.

Warmest regards,

Melanie M. Domenech Rodríguez
